Overview of Carrier Rate Changes: USPS®
The United States Postal Service® has announced postage rate price changes that will take effect on Sunday, January 22, 2017. While the price of a postage stamp will increase from 47¢ to 49¢, the price to mail a one-ounce First Class Mail® letter with the postage meter rate discount will actually decrease from the current 46½¢ to 46¢ (a savings of 3¢ per letter) when compared to stamped letters. This 6% meter differential price between a metered First Class piece and a stamped First Class piece will yield significant cost savings for all postage meter users.
Additional price changes taking effect on January 22 include: a 1.135% increase to Media Mail and Library Mail; an average increase of 3.9% to Priority Mail; and a 3.4% increase to Priority Mail Express. The single-piece price to mail a postcard will remain unchanged while Standard Mail (also known as “direct mail”) will be rebranded as USPS® Marketing Mail.
